New News is Some News

Hey guys.  We're happy to announce on our end that we will be apart of Don Giovanni Records, who will be releasing our 2nd LP in the early fall, just in time to get you back to school.    You can read the official blurb here from the Don Giovanni Records' website.

More developments on the record will be coming out through the summer.  Right road ravaged Kristin?....

"WHATEVER. THERE'S RETINA STUCK IN MY EYE!"

Also, we're still plotting some points for our summer tour with Black Wine, whose 3rd LP comes out on July 3rd.  Our U.S. tour looks like this.

From what I'm told, this picture was taken from space.  Actually, I don't bleieve this since I remember drawing the path on this hi-resolution map with a Sharpie. From the look of it, it appears our tour is a smaller version of the U.S. tucked inside the larger, actual U.S., but with pronounced phallic, tommy-gun quality to it.  Black Wine has pranked us again.

And in the blood, sweat, and lock-youself-inside for hours department,  here's a new batch of shirts we finally re-screened up   Maybe we have that orange or red one you were looking for at the last show?

Wait.  Let's get serious a minute here folks....

Snazzy Shoes, I Do Say

Hey everyone. In breaking news, a google search has confirmed that our band still has a free standing myspace page! How about that?

In other news, we have some new dates confirmed for our tour with Black Wine this summer, still looking for a few others.
Here's us with Paul Reverb.

In other, other news, we have finished mixing our upcoming LP and it will hopefully be out sometime before the comet comes and takes us all away to that utopian paradise.

In more freakin’ news, we have some local shows coming up before we head out:
6/20 @ Asbury Lanes- Asbury Park, NJ w/ Smokejumper, Billy Ragyun, Black Wine, and Sun Puddles
6/25 @ Cooler Ranch- New Brunswick, NJ w/ Lipstick Homicide, Rational Anthem, Tiny Teeth

Ok, I think we’re good here. Someone is knocking on my door at work and they’re about to get karate chopped.

OH, and big thank yous to all the people who hooked up our sporadic touring the last month up and down the coast. Also, big thank you goes to Fred Matthews and Dan Webb in Massachusetts for helping me solder my guitar back together. You are saints. Goddamn saints.

Finally, here's a cool write up that appeared on 16 Shutter Magazine's site about our appearance at Treasure Fest in Charlotte, NC a couple weeks ago. You can read the stuff here.

See ya at the beach. Yeah right.

Things About Last Tour You Should Know

Hey, every good boy (who) deserves fudge.  We are back from our tour that we did in the mid-west. But yeah, that's been done for a week.   Just popped out there for a bit, waved a firm hello, and popped back home again.  Somewhere along the way we drank some beers, bought some food, and actually played some songs.   Just want to thank via the ol' N. Jersey blog everyone for setting stuff up for us, giving us a place to stay, and outlandishly stuffing us with free eats like the glutenous walking food storage units we are. Seriously, sometimes we're like Tupperware containers with legs.   Anyway, in leiu of a lengthy run down of our extraneous bullshit travels, here's an abridged  version.

Chicago pizza is not like NY pizza. Right. I get it.  We get it. Stop arguing.  It's a different beast. It's fucking delicious. It makes me want to go into a coma after 2 slices. But it's good. OK.  NY pizza is fucking great too.  Now Florida pizza?  There my friend, is where Floridians lose the argument.

This was taken in Chicago.  Respect the foot.

Catman is a great cat in Detroit.  He is not a man, but  most certainly a cat. But his face does have man like qualities.

Roburritos in York PA is a tremendous place.  Eat here when you're out there.  That should be their moto. Give me $5 bucks for the slogan and we'll call it even.

Ohio has a lot of great people who like to rub you on the head, offer your copious amounts of food, and talk about the bands that they play in. Seems everyone in Ohio is in 7 bands that are equally active, and everyone fucking loves each band. It's crazy.  Good job Ohio.

If you want to kill time, get a movie gift-card from your mother 2 years prior, and finally use it for your band on tour.  Preferably, see Cabin in the Woods.  By the time you follow this advice, that movie will no longer be in theaters.

Also, use all gift-cards on tour.  It's not uncool to have lunch at Applebees on your aunt's Christmas dime, you sourpuss (didn't do that this tour, or yet, but that gift-card is shinin' bright in ma' wallet).

When in Wisconsin, stop at the Mars Cheese Castle.  If you don't, you blew it. Turn around and go home. Thank you to Jeff in Black Wine for suggesting this on last summer's tour.  The old me of a couple years ago? I would have driven by it and scoffed. But now....NO scoffing should be done at the Mars Cheese Castle (Exodus 20:14).

Don't pass on the right.
Patches agrees.

If you're going to spit gum out the window, make sure it doesn't fall back in the car and fall onto the back of your clothes, ruining them forever.

When in California, hang out with everyone in Horror Squad and Dudes Night.  Didn't hang with them there, but did in Dayton, OH. They're piss your pants funny, and luckily my bladder was strong that night.  Also, Criminal Culture from Tampa are 4 of the best dudes we got to spend a night with in Columbus. Thanks fellas!

Pittsburgh's always been cloudy when I see it.  Sun, please help out Pittsburgh and its rocky mountains of industry.

Biker rights.

Merch is fun to put on the table the first night, and then sloppy every other night.  Don't bring merch on tour. Just kidding.  You need to make things so people know you're not a band... of idiots.

There are 2 places called MELT in Ohio. The better one is in Cleveland (Lakewood). Cincinnati's is decent but different.  The best things about Cincinnati...  their 5-way slop Chili, the '75 Reds, Shake It Records, and hanging out with and seeing VACATION play songs on their home turf.

What up, VACATION?!?

OK.  So that's some wise advice from a wise ol' owl.

Been sitting around for a week. Getting back to NJ life.  Had a show with Billy Raygun in New Brunswick this upcoming Mother's Day but unfortunately it's been cancelled.  Right now, looking at a couple weeks off in which new tunes will be concocted and weird plans for the future will be  hatched.  Take care.  Stay thirsty my friends. XX

Leaving for Tour. Don't throw out my stuff.

Hey folks. Bye.
We’re heading out for a short US trek to the mid-west and back. Here’s a flyer for it all. (also, a "shows" section's been added to the right side of this blog, so you can check that for additional info).

We kick things off tonight at The Asbury Lanes in Asbury Park, NJ. It’s one of the last The Tea and Whiskey shows, so make it out. Or better yet, make-out, just not in front of me.

Also, for this show tonight, and for the tour we’ll have an new cassette tape we’ll be gallivanting around with, in hopes of some extra gas and coffee money. The tapes are limited to 30 and come with download codes, so you can have your songs and sell it on ebay. If you want a tape, and can’t make it to a show, give us a holler and we’ll put one aside for you. It sorta looks like this.

I say sorta because, it's slang for "sort of," and because my scanner ain't scannin' like it used to. So don't kill us. Please... don't. No seriously. Don't kill us.

Eye think that's it.

NEW LP in the works!

Hey folks. What's going on? Not much? Cool. That's good. My patchwork telepathy is causing me to hear apathetic answers to my general question. This of course is a bullshit statement.

So, this past weekend we finished recording basic tracks to our 2nd LP which we're calling My Hateable Face (aka LP2; 12 More Tunes). It'll be out sometime in late summer, early fall (we hope). This slab of tunes is a load of 12 songs in just over a 1/2 hour. Featuring such hits as "I Wanna Hold Your Hand," "Light My Fire," "Wouldn't It Be Nice," and "Paint It Black," this album is so incredibly ...... Oh wait, no those are other people's songs. Nevermind. We did not record songs named that. But, here's some action shots from the studio.

That's a bass lying on the floor.

That's a tape machine, another tape machine, and a bunch of preamps and compressors that may or may not be functioning at the time of this picture (most are not based on the lack of cables in the patch bay). And that's all the inside visual scoop you can get because we're bad at working cameras under the duress of recording.

So, yeah. We're finishing up backing vocals and then venturing into the process of mixing this monstrosity, mostly in the key of D and E.

Also, tomorrow night we're playing in Washington DC at Casa Fiesta with Spook Houses, LVL Up, an Foozle. Check it out, senators.

Also, we'll be playing Treasure Fest in Charlotte, NC on Friday May 18th @ Lunchbox Records. It's gonna be rad. Our buds Black Wine and Hooking Up are playing with us the same night/same place. We'll also be doing a couple show down there on the east coast and couple back. Check that too, if you want.

AND.....

As reported earlier, we'll be releasing a split 7'' with Black Wine before our summer tour. This will see the light of a new dawn rising in June. The cover was drawn up by Daniela and Justin Fullam who we send a big thank you to. 2 songs by each band. Black Wine does "Pants" with Devo's "Freedom of Choice." We do "Shitty Parade" with Gaunt's "Jim Motherfucker." Details forthcoming.

Yawn. Gasp. Goodbye for now. And thank you for listening/checking in.

The Ides of Starch (new t-shirts/show/new 7'')

What's going on with this winter/spring in the USA? Hey, meteorologists! We want answers.

Oh well. Anyway, the weather is nice and doesn't have anything to do with this band. We'd like to take credit for the nice weather that's pervaded the west to east of the states, but that'd be as pointless as taking credit for provolone cheese.

SO, tomorrow (today, because it's past eastern midnight), we're playing at The Cakeshop in NYC with Black Wine, Noun, and Pets with Pets (on tour from AUSTRALIA). Australia's far off, and the tolls from there to here have to suck worse than trying to take a day trip into Manhattan from NJ, and they are pretty bad nowadays. The show's at 8. Bands at 9. Get there and dance your bonkers off. This is a blurry flyer for it that's been online.

This flyer is very AOL circa '97. Rad!

Also, tomorrow, we'll have some new t-shirts for sale. These bad boys were drawn up by our buddy Tom Lowell of Slaughterhouse 5 fame out in New Hampshire, but now settles his rad bones in Seattle. Geography is neither here nor there, but here's a sample of the threads. Actually, geography is exactly here and there.

Also, thanks to our good as gold shirt pal Dragana Drobnjak for being out shirt screening partner in crime.

We'll be posting these on our webstore soon in case anyone wants to pick some up. Most are printed in tan and gray but we have a few in red and orange. Please inquire if interested.

Finally, our split 7" with Black Wine is finished with its mixing stage and will be out on Viking on Campus Records sometime before our summer tour with those good folks. Our side features the song "Shitty Parade" along with a cover of Columbus, OH's Gaunt and their tune "Jim Motherfucker." Black Wine's side has their song "Pants" b/w their much anticipated recording of Devo's "Freedom of Choice." !!!!

"That's all folks"- Bugs B.

Why Are We Doing This? 7''/Recording/Tours, myself, and I

Finally, the much blogged about, never-materailized 7’’ Why are We Doing This? has in fact materialized. You can pick it up here at Rok Lok Records, the gracious Long Island label that put this slab of wax out for us. Thanks a ton to Mike Andriani for doing a bunch of leg work on this.

Brief history lesson on it for those who care about such things. The 7’’ is made up of old recordings made back in early 2010!!!! when the band was just getting its sea legs. And, ummm. That’s about it. After some delays in pressing, it’s finally out, and hope you enjoy.

Moving on. We spent a bunch of time this weekend at the Hunt Studio with our right-hand band Black Wine and trusty engineer Eric Bennett. The weekend resulted in both bands recording our respective sides to the split 7’’ we’re going to be doing together. 2 songs from Black Wine. 2 songs from us Mowers, recorded direct to the Tascam 388 and it’s ¼ tape of glory.
7’’ will be out in a little while. Hang tight folks.

And in recording news, we’re going back to the Hunt Studio to record our new LP My Hateable Face in 2 weeks. A new batch of tunes. That’ll be out sometime, somewhere, somehow.

And finally, here’s what our April tour’s lookin’ like so far.

4/11- Asbury Lanes- Asbury Park, NJ
4/12- The Legion- Brooklyn, NY w/ Teen Demon, Living Room, Timeshares
4/13- The Depot- York, PA
4/14- Dag House- Cleveland, OH
4/15- The Painted Lady- Detroit, MI
4/16- Ground Zero- Milwaukee, WI w/ Big Eyes
4/17- TBA - Chicago, IL w/ Lipreader, Rad Payoff
4/18- TBA- Cincinnati, OH w/ Vacation, The Sidekicks
4/19- 15th House- Columbus, OH
4/20- Aces High- Logan, WV
4/21- Most Wanted Art Space- Pittsburgh, PA

Also, we’re gonna be printing up some new shirts in the next couple weeks with a rad new design by our buddy Tom Lowell! We’ll post that jazz soon.

That’s it for now. Take it easy. Yeah, you.
