Why Are We Doing This? 7''/Recording/Tours, myself, and I

Finally, the much blogged about, never-materailized 7’’ Why are We Doing This? has in fact materialized. You can pick it up here at Rok Lok Records, the gracious Long Island label that put this slab of wax out for us. Thanks a ton to Mike Andriani for doing a bunch of leg work on this.

Brief history lesson on it for those who care about such things. The 7’’ is made up of old recordings made back in early 2010!!!! when the band was just getting its sea legs. And, ummm. That’s about it. After some delays in pressing, it’s finally out, and hope you enjoy.

Moving on. We spent a bunch of time this weekend at the Hunt Studio with our right-hand band Black Wine and trusty engineer Eric Bennett. The weekend resulted in both bands recording our respective sides to the split 7’’ we’re going to be doing together. 2 songs from Black Wine. 2 songs from us Mowers, recorded direct to the Tascam 388 and it’s ¼ tape of glory.
7’’ will be out in a little while. Hang tight folks.

And in recording news, we’re going back to the Hunt Studio to record our new LP My Hateable Face in 2 weeks. A new batch of tunes. That’ll be out sometime, somewhere, somehow.

And finally, here’s what our April tour’s lookin’ like so far.

4/12- The Legion- Brooklyn, NY w/ Teen Demon, Living Room, Timeshares

4/21- Most Wanted Art Space- Pittsburgh, PA

Also, we’re gonna be printing up some new shirts in the next couple weeks with a rad new design by our buddy Tom Lowell! We’ll post that jazz soon.

That’s it for now. Take it easy. Yeah, you.

Making the most of an unseasonably warm Saturday

Yes, the title of this blog will one day be the title of our rarely read, scantily published memoir. (publisher's note: no such book is in the works).

Today we demoed 5 songs from our upcoming 12 song "yet to be named" LP that we're going to be recording at the end of March at the Hunt Studio with master of the 29 track, Eric Bennett. Today, we recorded with the master of the home studio, Eric Gieg at his Vhit Huse studio. Here's some action shots.
Kit says, "F the BS"

Eric Gieg mentors Steve on how to grow the perfect beard.

Eric plays a gut-wrenching song to a chair.

4th take of vocals by special guest star.

These demos may see the light of day some day. But for now, let's mix 'em. Will be done by the beginning of March after some personal endeavors, so we can stress over them in group therapy.

Also, we'll be out and about for Kit's b-day weekend. Come out and say congrats on getting older to her and the rest of us as well.

2/24 @ Barclay House- Baltimore, MD
2/25 @ Church of Abraham- Richmond, VA

updates on tours, 7'' and LP recording, and general BS comin' shortly.

Brick Mower - Weaving

Hey Champs. Got some stuff to watch, if you're eyes are getting dry. Here's a live video of us out in Ithaca, NY at The Space @ Greenstar from a week and some change ago. Looks like we're playing a death lair. Thanks Joe for posting this.

Also, our good compatriots Black Wine have put out this killer video for "Through the Foam" directed by Kate Sweeney which, unfortunately for us, was recorded while we were playing up in Ithaca doing that performance above. So hence, we are not extras. However, props to Miranda for wearing a very familiar and sharp looking t-shirt, if I do say so myself.

Also, for those in the south of NJ area of the USA, we'll be playing 2/24 @ Barclay House in Baltimore, MD and on 2/25 @ Church of Abraham (house, not church) in Richmond, VA. Hope to see yous'ses there.

The Groundhog is Pissed...

RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!

OK, let's get serious a minute here folks. We here at Brick Mower don't actually know whether the groundhog saw his shadow this year or not. Frankly, a quick google search would have turned up this info. Instead, this gnarly Veitnam era groundhog was googled, and we're happy with that.

NOW, last night we did a live set on WRSU 88.7 FM for Rutgers college radio. TAdd Videohanks to Jared and Jeff Pape for having us, and having us in the studio for one ridiculously rambling interview. Should be up online soon. Oi.....

Also, this Monday we'll be at Rehab in New Brunswick with Traveling (Ginger from Good Luck's new band), Lauren Measure, Dads, and Tiny Teeth. Be there by 6:30. Catch the show. Catch a wave. Catch the drift. AND catch the rising stars....

So yeah. Someone actually spent money on that. Probably A LOT of money.

Also, our much blogged about, sporadically asked about 7'' Why are We Doing This?, just got the green light from us after the test press came in. SO, record collector's, get your grubby paws ready. The 7'' should be out next month.

Finally, we're doing a tour out to the mid-west in April. Here's the plan so far (some dates might be added before hand).

4/12- TBA in Brooklyn, NY
4/13- The Depot- York, PA
4/14- Dag House- Cleveland, OH
4/15- TBA- Detroit, MI
4/16- Ground Zero- Milwaukee, WI w/ Big Eyes
4/17- TBA- Chicago, IL
4/18- TBA- Bloomington, IN
4/19- TBA- Cincinnati, OH
4/20- Ace's High- Logan, WV
4/21- TBA- Pittsburgh, PA

Who knew there were so many venues named TBA across the country?

And finally for now, still on track to record our 7'' with Black Wine in March. Then, 3 weeks later in March we'll be doing the next record. 12 songs on that slab to get your through this apocalyptic summer.

Later beach bums.

Shows:
2/6- Rehab- New Brunswick, NJ w/ Traveling, Lauren Measure, Dads, Tiny Teeth

2/10- The Loft- New Brunswick, NJ w/ Secret Photos, The Grains

2/24- Barclay House- Baltimore, MD w/ Crimes, + more

2/25- Church of Abraham- Richmond, VA w/ Trust Fall, Dial

3/16- TBA (the best venue on earth)

3/17- TBA (the second best venue on earth)

Hello world! Welcome to 2012

Pondering the future, one rest stop at a time.

Hey folks. It's been some time since we've updated this thing. Guess our fingers got a bit of the sleeptitus when it came to hammering on the keyboard. Since our last post, back in November, we've gone down to the southeast (of America), and celebrated some holidays. So let's recap, shall we?... and see where this new year is takin' us mowers.

First off, if you find yourself in Birmingham, AL, don't try to lick the lid of a can of beans like it's a popsicle. You will cut your mouth and bleed for a long time. Like hours.

Also, this dog bit Krisin's face in Tallahassee, FL. What a pup! We miss you Shark Tank....wherever you "fetch."

Secondly... well, we just want to belatedly thank our friends and do-gooders who helped up out on our November/December tour last month. Last month? That's like 4 years internet time. Oh shit. Time to get crackin' again.

Also, we just got back from doing a weekend tour to Frederick, MD and New Castle, DE. Thank you, as always to our good buddy Todd for setting up the DE. Do not skip Delaware people. It does exist, and in spite of popular needless jokes about Delaware. Also, thanks to our pal Dylan in Frederick for letting us make noise in the All Episcopal Church's basement. We rattled the Hell out of the place! That's a slam-dunk of a church joke if I ever heard one. Holy smokes!

Ok, so if by any chance you're reading this now, we're playing 1/10 in New Brunswick with Trust Fall (on tour from VA), Melissa & Paul, and Scary at the Rehab House. Email us for the address. Show's at 7pm sharp!

So now, onto more news. Our long delayed, forever and year 7'' Why Are We Doing This, is finally being plated FOR REAL this very week, and should be up for release on the Rok Lok Records website by the end of the month. 4 tunes for you in a fairly short run (250 I believe). Be on the lookout.

Also, we'll be heading down to VA in February for a couple shows, the northeast in March, the mid-west in April, and touring out to the west coast and back with Black Wine over the summer. Details to come.

Finally (thanks for stickin' around), we are heading into the studio in March to record both our split 7'' with Black Wine AND our 2nd LP. Songs are about done and we hope to have both releases out for our summer tour. Again, details to follow.

Many thanks and happy new year for all of you and yours. May it be a year without fear tears. No use in crying too long. Gets ya nowhere but a trip to the Visine aisle. Until next time.

Upcoming shows:

1/13- Hanover, PA @ Kclinger's

1/27- Philadelphia, PA @ The Bikery

1/28- Ithaca, NY @ The Space at Greenstar

1/29- Nyack, NY @ Vinyl Lounge

2/10- New Brunswick, NJ @ The Loft

2/24- TBA in Baltimore, MD

2/25- Richmond, VA @ Church of Abraham

3/24- New York, NY @ the Cake Shop

More comin' soon.

We Will Run in the 2012 Election

.... Just kidding. 3 people can not run under the same ballot, to in fact, become the same president. It does now work this way folks.

We are however, working on some BIG (fuc*ing) plans for 2012 (fucking) 12. That's twice the 12's, man. You can't go wrong.

But first, let's see where we're at. We're still working on filling a couple of holes for our Nov/Dec tour. Here's the places we'll be!

11/26- Providence, RI

11/27- Bethpage, NY

11/29- New Hope, PA

11/30- Queens, NY

12/2- Baltimore, MD

12/3- Asheville, NC

12/4- Nashville, TN

12/5- Alabama!/South Carolina/ Georgia/south (HELP!!!!!)

12/6- Tallahassee, FL

12/7- Gainesville, FL

12/8- Atlanta, GA

12/9- Durham, NC

12/10- somewhere in VA (HELP!, please, maybe)

So that's about that. If you can help in any of these spot that say HELP, it would be awesome. We'll give you a free drink (beer, soda, or a bottled water of your choice. But don't waste it by choosing bottled water).

As for the upcoming events, here's how 2012's shaping up so far:

1. NEW LP recording in March or so (anyone wanna put this out? We're broke.)

2. Split LP with Black Wine on Viking on Campus Records, recorded around the same time for the same budget as above LP (we're broke).

3. split 7'' with Snow What from Massachusetts

4. Spring tour (south) and summer tour (all over the f'in Continental map)

5. Finish planning the rest of the year.

Ok, so that's that. We are finishing up crafting a tub load of new songs in the basement, woodsheding our days away on busted guitar cables and cheap wine (not to mention holding down killer day jobs).

SO on that note. See y'all out there. If anyone needs info on a show or wants to book something/ hang out and watch a movie, email us @:
vikingoncampus@gmail.com
